Production of Anti-Serum

After N. fowleri have been grown to a dense population of cells that appears like a dark ring on the surface of the agar in the petri dish, the cells can be scraped off the surface of the agar.

Then these N. fowleri cells can be injected with a hypodermic needle into the blood stream of a rabbit, causing the rabbit’s immune system to produce an immune response against N. fowleri by generating antibodies. After about a week, blood can be drawn from the rabbit, and the blood cells removed leaving serum which contains the anti-N. fowleri rabbit antibodies
