Scientific Literacy Survey

The Scientific Literacy Survey

team

Please read the following information before proceeding

Our survey measures your content knowledge domain and self-efficacy/attitudinal domains of scientific literacy. Your contribution to our research will allow the Scientific Literacy Center to predict the success and retention of undergraduates majoring in the biological, chemical, physical/engineering sciences once they enter college.

Who should take the test and why?

This assessment test should be taken by pre and entering freshmen that are graduating high school seniors who intend on majoring in a STEM major. The purpose of the test is to measure the content knowledge domain and self-efficacy/attitudinal domains of scientific literacy.

What does the test measure?

It is anticipated that composite scores help predict STEM major retention and success in a student’s major. The assessment test will measure three things:

  1. self-efficacy and attitude as a “scientist”;
  2. content knowledge with true/false questions; and
  3. scientific reasoning.

We have three versions of the test with the first being a combination of all components.
