Biotechnology Institute

The mission of the Biotechnology Institute is to engage, excite, and educate as many people as possible, particularly young people, about biotechnology and its immense potential to heal the sick, feed the hungry, restore the environment, and fuel the economy. The vision of the Biotechnology Institute is to capture the imagination of youth, to inspire the next generation to learn life science and biotechnology, and transform society’s expectations so that all citizens may appreciate the importance of biotechnology to society. The Biotechnology Institute began operations in the offices of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) in Washington, DC. The Institute was created in 1998 by a group of leading biotech companies, biotechnology centers, and BIO to be an independent, credible, and science-based national education organization. The Biotechnology Institute now directs national educational competitions that reach a wide spectrum of audiences. Involvement in the Institute’s programs gives organizations visibility and the opportunity to connect with the communities that their programs serve.
